Pivots are at each end of the arbor and run in the pivot holes in the plates, friction is the enemy of clocks so the pivots must be as smooth and polished as possible. When the oil gets contaminated by dirt the pivots wear away very quickly and often need replacing. Here I am using a D.T.I. to ensure the arbor is running true in the lathe steady.
